But since the overwhelming number comics are written and drawn by people who believe women are some form of alien species, I just can't do themMaiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17212711843307060731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17759756.post-1151082929896314052006-06-24T05:15:00.000+12:002006-06-24T05:15:00.000+12:00I enjoy your take on serial storytelling, and it i...I enjoy your take on serial storytelling, and it is one of my fascinations as well. I wonder why, though, you don't mention comic books. If you are looking for serial storytelling, there's the mother lode.Walakahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01320268370872417847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17759756.post-1149817983836191462006-06-09T13:53:00.000+12:002006-06-09T13:53:00.000+12:00Once a month is about the same schedule as TV - a ...Once a month is about the same schedule as TV - a movie would have to be at least the length of a two-parter, and new episodes of a series only screen half the time. That gives no leeway for the higher production standards required by big-screen presentations.Commie Mutant Traitorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06632923951984248888noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17759756.post-1149755336561747822006-06-08T20:28:00.000+12:002006-06-08T20:28:00.000+12:00Of course I was aware, that's why I brought him up...Of course I was aware, that's why I brought him up. I was trying to point out that serial storytelling has a long history, and it a reasonably respectable one (although not usually at the time it was produced - since mass production has been possible serial story-telling has been a form for the masses).

Seems like a good idea commie mutant traitor, but I actually three months is too far apart. I think once a month would be the ideal schedule, to maintain that invested feeling, and to make sure quality doesn't suffer.

I never got into Undeclared, but I adore Freaks & Geeks. I over-identify with Lindsay in a way that possibly isn't healthy (although she is far smarter than me when it comes to her life).Maiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17212711843307060731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17759756.post-1149741615889173512006-06-08T16:40:00.000+12:002006-06-08T16:40:00.000+12:00Freaks and Geeks is in my top five shows ever. It's such a pity they never got to follow through with the storyline for Bill's character (the coach marries his mother, he becomes a good basketball player and gets torn between jocks and geeks) or follow Lindsay through the Deadhead thing and the onset of New Wave amongst the group of Freak friends. Undeclared was also really good (17 episodes. Will Apatow ever create a show that lasts more than a season?), although it was more lighthearted and silly. It still had real depth to it and the characters were adorable.Daniellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03896817139131485525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17759756.post-1149735096029765572006-06-08T14:51:00.000+12:002006-06-08T14:51:00.000+12:00I loved freaks and geeks. Brilliant TV.

My new favorite is the Gilmore Girls, sickly sweet at times, but still a good show to unwind to.Stephaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05680274679737065263noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17759756.post-1149724184051230332006-06-08T11:49:00.000+12:002006-06-08T11:49:00.000+12:00Personally, I'd like to see the return of movie se...Personally, I'd like to see the return of movie serials. Say, an ongoing series with a new film out every two or three months. Budget and production quality would be somewhere in between tv and hollywood blockbuster. That would allow more consistency in scriptwriting, eliminate advertising, and hopefully cut down on studio interference.Commie Mutant Traitorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06632923951984248888noreply@blogger.com
